Mission:

"To be the global leader of enviro-friendly solutions for the complete treatment and disposal of biomedical waste."

HSS is a Canadian company that specializes in the management of biomedical waste. HSS is privately owned and operates a government licensed biomedical and special waste storage and treatment facility in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Our parent company, Iotron Industries Canada Inc. is a provider of Electron Beam processing services and equipment providing quality service through Electron Beam facilities located in the greater Vancouver area of British Columbia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Our British Columbia reference facility is a turnkey solution designed to reduce downtime and maximize efficiency. The facility is capable of treating up to 6,000 kg of biomedical waste per day. HSS currently provides services to three major health regions encompassing 36 health facilities. Collection routes and services are rapidly expanding.

A waste management system has been developed by HSS to safely manage this potentially hazardous waste and to render it sterile. It is essential that each component of the waste management system is implemented to ensure an effective operation and to meet current and future regulatory requirements.

The HSS waste management system includes a computerized electronic tracking, monitoring, transportation and billing system that ensures a high quality level of services, and efficiency of operation. Complementing the electronic systems are refrigerated storage, treatment, containment and washing systems that ensures a waste management facility is operating at expected environmental standards and meets governmental regulatory requirements.

The HSS waste management reference facility operating in British Columbia Canada incorporates the HydroClave® waste treatment system. HydroClave® is a Canadian "state-of-the-art" technology that is specifically designed to treat biomedical waste. Through a process of time, temperature, pressure and fragmentation of material, the treated waste is rendered sterile. The treated material is then processed through a shredder, a compactor, and is virtually unrecognizable and suitable for disposal to local landfill sites. Waste volume reduction of up to 80% and weight reduction of 40% is achieved.

The HSS Waste Management System can be adapted to manage a single hospital's waste or to manage waste from multiple hospitals on a regional, provincial or state basis.

The HSS Waste Management System is a proven system that meets both current and anticipated federal, state, provincial and local government requirements to manage and treat biomedical waste. HSS is positioned to provide these systems worldwide. HSS can assist interested parties with:

  • Requirements and technical analysis;
  • Concept development;
  • Project management;
  • Systems integration and start-up;
  • Training and coaching during start-up;
